                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
 1-2     congratulate Shirley Igo of Plainview, incoming president of the
 1-3     National PTA; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Mrs. Igo, who assumes the duties of president on
 1-5     June 26, 2001, has an exceptional record of achievement with the
 1-6     PTA, having served with distinction as president of the Texas
 1-7     chapter and vice president for Region VI, vice president for
 1-8     legislation, and president-elect of the national organization; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the PTA, she has
1-10     furthered the cause of education as a member of the Texas
1-11     Legislature's Select Committee to Review the Central Education
1-12     Agency, Texas Goals 2000 Steering Committee, Texas Education
1-13     Commissioner's Advisory Committee on Site Based Decision Making,
1-14     Texas Business and Education Coalition, and Southwest Education
1-15     Development Laboratory Advisory Committee; and
1-16           WHEREAS, This dynamic individual has also found time to
1-17     benefit her community through her participation in the Plainview
1-18     Chamber of Commerce and the Hale County 4-H Club and as a member of
1-19     the board of directors of the Plainview Area United Way and Caprock
1-20     Girl Scout Council; and
1-21           WHEREAS, In recognition of her outstanding efforts, Mrs. Igo
1-22     has received numerous accolades, including the Texas State Board of
1-23     Education Heroes Award, Phi Delta Kappa Advocate for the Public
1-24     Schools Award, Texas Governor's Volunteer in Education Award, Texas
 2-1     Juvenile Justice Coalition Outstanding Services Award, Caprock
 2-2     Council Girl Scout Woman of Distinction Award, Texas 4-H Volunteer
 2-3     of the Year Award, Texas Library Trustee of the Year Award, and
 2-4     Plainview Woman of the Year; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Mrs. Igo's dedication and commitment to education
 2-6     and community service are an inspiration to all who know her, and
 2-7     it is indeed appropriate that she receive special legislative
 2-8     recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate Shirley Igo, incoming president of
2-11     the National PTA, and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-12     continued success; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Mrs. Igo as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-15     House of Representatives.
