R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is joining with
 1-2     the Reverend Kenneth M. Hayman and the congregation of First
 1-3     Baptist Church of Montgomery to celebrate the 150th anniversary of
 1-4     this remarkable place of worship; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Thirty-one charter members organized The Baptist
 1-6     Church in Montgomery on December 28, 1850, under the leadership of
 1-7     the Reverend Charles Chilton, and through the turn of two
 1-8     centuries, the church has made immeasurable contributions to its
 1-9     Southeast Texas area; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Reverend Hayman has provided moral and spiritual
1-11     guidance to the congregation since he took on the responsibilities
1-12     of pastor in 1988, and during the past five years, 11 young
1-13     individuals from the church have committed to full-time ministry;
1-14     and
1-15           WHEREAS, Through a century and a half, First Baptist Church
1-16     of Montgomery members have demonstrated a steadfast commitment to
1-17     their faith and their community, and it is most appropriate to take
1-18     this opportunity to recognize the congregation and the church's
1-19     impressive history; now, therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-21     Legislature hereby congratulate the Reverend Kenneth M. Hayman and
1-22     the members of First Baptist Church of Montgomery on the occasion
1-23     of the church's 150th anniversary and commend them for playing a
1-24     pivotal role in the lives of numerous Texans; and, be it further
 2-1           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-2     prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the
 2-3     Texas House of Representatives.
