R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The congregants of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist 1-2 Church in South Dallas take great pride in their pastor, the 1-3 Reverend Clyde Clark III, and it is indeed fitting that he be 1-4 honored for his exemplary service to his church and community; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Reverend Clark has shared his vision and energy as 1-6 head of Mount Carmel for nearly two years; under his pastorship, 1-7 the church is growing in numbers and in spirit and is strengthening 1-8 the bond with its neighbors; and 1-9 WHEREAS, He encourages members of his flock to better the 1-10 life of their fellowman and to that end, Mount Carmel sponsors an 1-11 annual youth fair, participates in an adopt-a-school and mentoring 1-12 program with James Madison High School, and on Thanksgiving Day 1-13 2000, provided meals to more than 1,500 shut-ins and homeless 1-14 individuals; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This esteemed minister initiated a project to 1-16 benefit on-duty Dallas police and fire department personnel during 1-17 extended disaster situations; the Emergency and Safety Personnel 1-18 Relief Bus, at no cost to those departments, will be a haven for 1-19 employees needing rest and refreshment while on emergency call; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A successful businessman as well as an admired man 1-21 of the cloth, Reverend Clark has owned and operated CCC Truck and 1-22 Bus L.L.C. for more than 30 years, providing exterior repair and 1-23 refurbishing and refinishing services to buses and other industrial 1-24 transportation services in the Dallas area; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Reverend Clark has served as an advisor to President 2-2 Jimmy Carter, President Gerald Ford, Vice President Walter Mondale, 2-3 and Secretary of State Cyrus Vance; for his accomplishments, he has 2-4 been awarded the keys to the city of Dallas twice, was honored by 2-5 the city with a Clyde Clark Day, and has received many business 2-6 achievement awards through the years; and 2-7 WHEREAS, He is a past president of the Dallas Black Chamber 2-8 of Commerce, the Pylon Salesmanship Club, and the NAACP Youth 2-9 Council, and has served on the boards of the National Business 2-10 League, United Way, the Dallas Alliance, The University of Texas at 2-11 Dallas, El Centro Junior College, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit; 2-12 and 2-13 WHEREAS, Reverend Clark and his late wife, Gifty, enjoyed 35 2-14 years of marriage until her recent passing; he is the proud father 2-15 of four children, two of whom have answered the call to ministry; 2-16 and 2-17 WHEREAS, For the past two years, Reverend Clark has provided 2-18 spiritual direction to many who have sought his wisdom and counsel, 2-19 and his efforts have given much-needed support and inspiration to 2-20 countless individuals; now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Clyde Clark III on the 2-23 occasion of his pastoral anniversary at Mount Carmel Missionary 2-24 Baptist Church and extend to him sincere best wishes for the 2-25 future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of 2-26 this resolution be prepared for Reverend Clark as an expression of 2-27 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
