R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Members of the Houston chapter of the American 1-2 Leadership Forum are visiting the Capitol on April 3, 2001, and it 1-3 is a pleasure to extend a welcome to these public-spirited 1-4 individuals; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1980 by lawyer Joseph Jaworski and 17 1-6 other prominent Americans, the forum seeks to identify leaders in 1-7 communities across the country, develop their leadership skills, 1-8 and encourage them to join together in addressing public issues; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, Every year approximately 20 established leaders in 1-11 each chapter are selected to participate in an intensive, year-long 1-12 program in which they explore the nature of leadership and nurture 1-13 a variety of leadership skills; the makeup of each class is 1-14 intended to reflect the demographic profile of the community, as 1-15 well as to include the perspectives of business, religious, and 1-16 academic leaders and elected officials; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The work of the American Leadership Forum is 1-18 premised on the belief that the responsibility for improving 1-19 organizations, communities, and society as a whole lies with 1-20 individuals who are willing to lend their own personal efforts to 1-21 that cause, and that through the united efforts of a diverse 1-22 leadership, any problem can be overcome; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Members of this year's American Leadership Forum 1-24 class in Houston include Armando Alaniz, Carol Alvarado, Charles 2-1 Bacaisse, Glenda Barrett, Jew Don Boney, Jr., Dr. Peter Chang, 2-2 Algenita Davis, George DeMontrond, James Dixon III, Robert Eury, 2-3 Beth Everts, Carolyn Grovey-Brown, Bonnie Hellums, Dee Koch, Ranvir 2-4 Mohindra, Dr. Susan Sclafani, Sara Seiber, Brian Smith, Ann Stern, 2-5 Caroline Vetterling, and Dr. Alvia Wardlaw; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The American Leadership Forum is doing invaluable 2-7 work in training local leaders and in encouraging a spirit of 2-8 collaborative civic engagement, and its efforts are indeed 2-9 deserving of recognition and support; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby commend the members of the American Leadership 2-12 Forum for their significant commitment to public service and extend 2-13 to them sincere appreciation on behalf of all the citizens of 2-14 Texas.
