R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The San Antonio Lanier High School boys' basketball 1-2 team has again proven itself to be among the state's elite hoops 1-3 squads by advancing to the UIL Class 4A state tournament for the 1-4 second consecutive year; and 1-5 WHEREAS, After a thrilling semifinal 50-48 victory over 1-6 Dallas Lincoln High School, this gritty Lanier team went on to face 1-7 undefeated Beaumont Ozen High School in the state title matchup; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Lanier's stellar season ended one win short of the 1-10 coveted state crown, but the team won the respect of all who 1-11 witnessed its determined performance, and the Voks completed the 1-12 2000-2001 campaign with a record of 32 wins and only six defeats; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Rudy Bernal, who has coached at Lanier for 18 years, 1-15 inspired his talented players and schooled them in hardwood 1-16 fundamentals, enabling them to compete at the highest level as a 1-17 team; and 1-18 WHEREAS, These exceptional young men, along with their 1-19 coaches and staff, are a source of tremendous pride to the students 1-20 and faculty at Lanier High School, as well as their many supporters 1-21 in the community, and it is indeed appropriate that they receive 1-22 special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate the players and staff of the San 2-1 Antonio Lanier High School boys' basketball team on their 2-2 outstanding achievements during the 2000-2001 season, which 2-3 culminated in a trip to the state tournament, and extend to them 2-4 sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for the Lanier High School boys' basketball team as an 2-7 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
