R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 recognize members of the Charity Guild of Catholic Women from 1-3 Houston on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol on 1-4 April 3, 2001; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in 1922, the Charity Guild initially 1-6 assisted the San Jose Free Clinic for Mexican American women and 1-7 children, supplied layettes, and supported Christmas charities; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Through the years, guild members have dedicated 1-9 their efforts to a growing list of projects, including ones that 1-10 aid foster children, offer nursing scholarships, and provide 1-11 furnishings and subsidies for Catholic maternity homes, and they 1-12 volunteer at Jefferson Davis Hospital and help the elderly at St. 1-13 Anthony Center; and 1-14 WHEREAS, These generous souls have donated myriad hours at 1-15 Ben Taub General Hospital to work with premature babies and 1-16 patients struggling with heart problems, cancer, and diabetes; the 1-17 guild's work with the St. Joseph Hospital pediatric department led 1-18 to the formation of the St. Joseph Auxiliary, and its assistance 1-19 with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center resulted in the creation 1-20 of the local chapter of the National Catholic Community Service; 1-21 and 1-22 WHEREAS, In 1953, the guild opened a resale shop that 1-23 continues to operate today, with all of the revenue from the shop 1-24 going to support programs for children in Harris and Fort Bend 2-1 counties; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The Charity Guild of Catholic Women has been a 2-3 steadfast source of compassion and practical assistance to meet the 2-4 physical and spiritual needs of countless Texans, and it is indeed 2-5 appropriate that this worthy organization be honored at this time; 2-6 now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby salute the Charity Guild of Catholic Women and 2-9 extend warmest best wishes to the members of its delegation on the 2-10 occasion of their visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for the Charity Guild of Catholic Women as an expression 2-13 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
