No. 693 77R11889 PCM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Jameson of Galveston is being honored with 1-2 the Rabbi Henry Cohen Humanitarian Award by Temple B'Nai Israel, 1-3 and her selection comes as no surprise to area citizens, for she 1-4 has long given generously of her time and resources to benefit 1-5 others; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A clinical professor at The University of Texas 1-7 Medical Branch at Galveston and a psychiatrist who specializes in 1-8 the treatment of children and adolescents, Dr. Jameson has touched 1-9 the lives of countless people over the course of her medical career 1-10 and has drawn on her professional expertise to make a positive 1-11 impact in the greater community; and 1-12 WHEREAS, To that end, Dr. Jameson has devoted herself 1-13 wholeheartedly to the Children's Center of Galveston, from helping 1-14 redesign the center's programs to providing leadership on its board 1-15 as its current chair and personally visiting the facility with her 1-16 collie to help bring joy into the lives of children in need; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Her volunteer work in behalf of young people 1-18 includes her service on the board of the Galveston Orphanage, 1-19 aiding the children of the Albertine Yeager Home, and assisting 1-20 with the first facility in Galveston County established to house 1-21 juvenile offenders; this compassionate individual has for decades 1-22 also provided financial support to children living in third-world 1-23 countries and delighted in the knowledge that she could make a 1-24 difference in their lives; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Jameson has served as president of the Texas 2-2 Society of Psychiatric Physicians, on the Texas Board of Mental 2-3 Health and Mental Retardation, on the Gulf Coast Regional Mental 2-4 Health and Mental Retardation Center Board of Trustees, and in many 2-5 other capacities with the goal of enhancing the provision of mental 2-6 health services; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Other organizations that have benefited from this 2-8 remarkable woman's dedication include Our Daily Bread, a facility 2-9 serving homeless adults in the Galveston community, the board of 2-10 the Galveston County Jewish Welfare Association, and Congregation 2-11 B'Nai Israel and its Sisterhood, both of which she has led as 2-12 president; and 2-13 WHEREAS, Grace Jameson has expressed her dedication to the 2-14 welfare of others in many lasting and meaningful ways, and she is 2-15 indeed deserving of legislative recognition for her outstanding 2-16 service as a humanitarian; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-18 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Grace Jameson on her receipt of 2-19 the Rabbi Henry Cohen Humanitarian Award from Temple B'Nai Israel 2-20 and commend her for the many significant contributions she has made 2-21 to the betterment of her community; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for Dr. Jameson as an expression of high regard by the 2-24 Texas House of Representatives.
