R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On March 28, 2001, Robert Hughes, the longtime head 1-2 basketball coach at Dunbar High School in Fort Worth, skillfully 1-3 led the West team to victory in the McDonald's All-American High 1-4 School Basketball Game; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Coach Hughes, whose record includes 1,213 victories, 1-6 the second highest total among high school coaches in the United 1-7 States, received a great honor when he was chosen to guide the West 1-8 squad at the McDonald's game; this noteworthy 24-year-old event 1-9 recognizes the nation's top high school basketball players and 1-10 affords them the opportunity to compete head-to-head; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Held at Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke 1-12 University, this exciting contest saw the West squad fall behind by 1-13 15 points at intermission, but after being properly motivated at 1-14 intermission by Coach Hughes, the team stormed back in the second 1-15 half, led largely by game MVP Eddy Curry, to claim an impressive 1-16 131-125 victory; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Robert Hughes is truly a coaching legend in Fort 1-18 Worth, in the Lone Star State, and across the nation, and it was 1-19 indeed fitting that he be chosen to coach the West team at the 1-20 McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game; now, 1-21 therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby congratulate Robert Hughes on his recent 1-24 coaching success at the McDonald's All-American High School 2-1 Basketball Game and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 2-2 success; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Coach Hughes as an expression of high regard by the 2-5 Texas House of Representatives.
