R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Reverend Sterling Lands II and his wife, Mable
 1-2     Lands, of Austin, have devoted 17 years of exemplary service to
 1-3     Greater Calvary Baptist Church; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The organizing pastor of Greater Calvary, Reverend
 1-5     Lands leads a dynamic congregation that supports more than 30
 1-6     ministries; he is founder and president of one of the church's
 1-7     programs, Rites of Passage, Inc., an agency that provides
 1-8     affordable housing and promotes community, economic, and human
 1-9     development, and he is CEO of another church agency, Servant
1-10     Warrior Leader Development, which builds character and encourages
1-11     abstinence among youth; and
1-12           WHEREAS, For the past 17 years Reverend Lands has also been
1-13     in the forefront of community activism in Austin; he has served on
1-14     the city planning commission, the board of the Forum for Community
1-15     Reconciliation, and the Eastside Social Action Coalition, to name
1-16     only some of the organizations in which he is involved; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Reverend Lands exercises leadership that is informed
1-18     by rich and varied experience; the holder of a doctor of divinity
1-19     degree and a published author, he is also president of ANAK
1-20     Consultants and has 25 years' experience in the corporate world as
1-21     an engineer and director of operations; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mable Lands, this good pastor's wife and partner for
1-23     33 years, has played a vital role in building the ministries of
1-24     Greater Calvary; state-certified as an early child development
 2-1     professional administrator and as a food-service manager, she
 2-2     serves as the administrative director and facilitator of the female
 2-3     division of the youth development program and as director of the
 2-4     church's Abundant Life Learning Center, a school for children
 2-5     between the ages of two and five; she also holds the position of
 2-6     deaconess; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The faith, dedication, and vision of this treasured
 2-8     couple have won them the esteem and affection of their congregation
 2-9     and the community at large, and it is indeed fitting that they be
2-10     recognized at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-12     Legislature hereby honor the Reverend Sterling Lands and Mable
2-13     Lands for their 17 years of outstanding contributions to Greater
2-14     Calvary Baptist Church and extend to them sincere best wishes for
2-15     happiness and success in their future endeavors; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-17     prepared for Reverend and Mrs. Lands as an expression of high
2-18     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
