R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
1-2 welcome the visiting members of the Southlake Youth Action
1-3 Commission (SYAC) to the State Capitol on April 4, 2001; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Created in 1994, SYAC provides the youth of
1-5 Southlake with an outlet to bring issues forward to the city
1-6 council while also helping familiarize them with the process of
1-7 local government; during the 2000-2001 academic year, it is
1-8 focusing on community service projects, Youth In Government and
1-9 Leadership programs, and Voice of Youth forums, as well as offering
1-10 a ropes course and conducting a mock city council meeting; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Moreover, this outstanding program serves to inspire
1-12 its students to recognize their own potential and to develop
1-13 creative approaches to problem solving; it provides young adults
1-14 with the skills necessary to be effective leaders in their schools
1-15 and communities and instills in them lasting tools that will
1-16 benefit them throughout their lives; and
1-17 WHEREAS, In attendance today are Samantha Ansley, Cameron
1-18 Baynard, Nicole Buckreis, Graham Clark, Andrew Coons, Taylor
1-19 Fidler, Colleen Flaherty, A. J. Kane, Jeremy Neisen, Tori Oman,
1-20 Michael Schorn, Aaron Smith, and Perry West; and
1-21 WHEREAS, All the dynamic members of the Southlake Youth
1-22 Action Commission are undoubtedly future leaders of our state and
1-23 nation, and it is truly a privilege to pay tribute to them at this
1-24 time; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby welcome the visiting contingent from the
2-3 Southlake Youth Action Commission to the State Capitol and extend
2-4 to them sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and informative day;
2-5 and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the members of the Southlake Youth Action Commission
2-8 as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
2-9 Representatives.
