No. 708 77R11881 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Samantha Brooks of Sugar Land has been named one of 1-2 Texas' top honorees in the 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community 1-3 Awards program, joining student volunteers similarly recognized in 1-4 each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Chosen as a Distinguished Finalist, Ms. Brooks, 12, 1-6 was selected based on criteria such as initiative, effort, impact, 1-7 and personal growth; she will receive a bronze medallion from 1-8 Prudential at a local ceremony; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The awards program was created six years ago by The 1-10 Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership with the 1-11 National Association of Secondary School Principals; its goal is to 1-12 reward exemplary volunteerism by young people in grades 5 through 1-13 12 while inspiring their peers to follow suit; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A seventh-grader at First Colony Middle School, 1-15 Ms. Brooks is an aspiring veterinarian who coordinated an animal 1-16 awareness project that garnered food, supplies, and funds in behalf 1-17 of a local agency that takes care of abandoned and neglected pets; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, This young Texan has demonstrated an extraordinary 1-20 level of determination and accomplishment, and she has set an 1-21 inspiring example of volunteerism for her friends, fellow students, 1-22 and community members; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Samantha Brooks on being named a 2-1 Distinguished Finalist in the 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community 2-2 Awards program and extend to her warmest best wishes for success in 2-3 all her future endeavors; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Ms. Brooks as an expression of high regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
