R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Daniel Ben-Nun of Austin has recently been named a 1-2 Distinguished Finalist for a 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community 1-3 Award for his exemplary volunteer service, and this special 1-4 recognition is indeed well deserved; and 1-5 WHEREAS, In partnership with the National Association of 1-6 Secondary School Principals, The Prudential Insurance Company of 1-7 America sponsors the Spirit of Community Awards to honor young 1-8 volunteers from across the nation who have demonstrated an 1-9 extraordinary commitment to serving their communities, and more 1-10 than 23,000 high school and middle school students were considered 1-11 for awards in this year's program; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A senior at McCallum High School, Mr. Ben-Nun 1-13 created a peer mentoring program that matches upperclassmen with 1-14 incoming freshmen to encourage at-risk students to stay in school 1-15 and earn their diplomas; he gave generously of his time and talents 1-16 to organize this visionary program, and his selfless efforts are 1-17 most noteworthy; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The success and continued advancement of society 1-19 depends greatly on the dedication of young people, like 1-20 Mr. Ben-Nun, who use their talents and resources to serve others, 1-21 and it is a privilege to join in honoring this distinguished young 1-22 man at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Ben-Nun on being named a 2-1 Distinguished Finalist for a 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community 2-2 Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success 2-3 in all of his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Mr. Ben-Nun as an expression of high regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives.
