                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 2001 Nacogdoches Central Heights High School
 1-2     girls basketball team capped off an incredible season by winning
 1-3     the UIL Class 2A state basketball championship with a thrilling
 1-4     57-56 victory against Boyd High School, and this outstanding team
 1-5     accomplishment merits special legislative recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Lady Devils finished the season with an overall
 1-7     record of 34-4 and won 29 of their final 30 games; they also went
 1-8     undefeated in District 23-AA play, compiling a 14-0 mark; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, In the state tournament held at the Frank Erwin
1-10     Center  on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin, Central
1-11     Heights was led by Cristin Burdette, who was selected as the
1-12     tournament's Most Valuable Player; moreover, she and teammate
1-13     Rebekah Sopko were chosen to the all-tournament team; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible
1-15     without the contributions from all of the talented team members,
1-16     including Cristin Burdette, Nikki Collins, Jonni Ecker, Lori
1-17     Fryman, Chasity Perry, Stephanie Rollins, Rebekah Sopko, Jenna
1-18     Richards, Tabitha Chisenhall, Lauren Kendrick, as well as assistant
1-19     coaches Tamika Christopher and Carla Burns, and head coach Dayna
1-20     Westbrook; additional support came from Principal Andy Binford and
1-21     Superintendent/Athletic Director James Bogue; and
1-22           WHEREAS, This year's team also proved to be quick studies off
1-23     the court; every member of the Lady Devils was on the A-B honor
1-24     roll for the entire academic year and all of the team's seniors
 2-1     were named 2001 Noble Scholars in Nacogdoches County; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, These admirable student-athletes have proven
 2-3     themselves to be formidable competitors, and the Lady Devils may
 2-4     take pride and satisfaction in their state championship; now,
 2-5     therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby congratulate the 2001 Central Heights girls
 2-8     basketball team on winning the UIL Class 2A state title and extend
 2-9     to them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for the team members and coaches as an expression of high
2-13     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
