R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Daniel Martinez of Edinburg has been named a
1-2 distinguished finalist in the 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community
1-3 Awards; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Created in 1995 to recognize students in middle and
1-5 high school grades who have performed outstanding acts of community
1-6 service, the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is
1-7 sponsored by the Prudential Insurance Company of America in
1-8 partnership with the National Association of Secondary School
1-9 Principals; and
1-10 WHEREAS, Almost 23,000 individuals were nominated by local
1-11 schools, Girl Scout councils, and 4-H organizations to be named
1-12 local honorees; from this group, state-level judges named 227
1-13 individuals as distinguished finalists; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez, a 17-year-old senior at Edinburg High
1-15 School, received recognition as a distinguished finalist for his
1-16 tireless efforts in organizing a task force of 65 volunteers to
1-17 build a city skate park and securing a $50,000 commitment from the
1-18 Edinburg City Council to support the project; and
1-19 WHEREAS, For his dedication to and contributions toward the
1-20 betterment of his community, Mr. Martinez truly deserves such a
1-21 prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby congratulate Daniel Martinez on being named a
1-24 distinguished finalist in the 2001 Prudential Spirit of Community
2-1 Awards and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
2-2 and happiness; and, be it further
2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-4 prepared for Mr. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
2-5 Texas House of Representatives.
