R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The 2000-2001 school year marks the 75th anniversary
1-2 of Thomas Edison Middle School of Houston; and
1-3 WHEREAS, Built in 1925 as a part of the Harrisburg
1-4 Independent School District, the original school building was
1-5 replaced in 1983 with a new, state-of-the-art educational facility
1-6 that today serves 1,110 students; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Thomas Edison Middle School offers a unique and
1-8 diverse curriculum, including several enrichment programs, as well
1-9 as popular and successful ballet folklorico and mariachi groups,
1-10 Tae-Kwon-Do classes, intramural sports, and even computer and
1-11 English classes for parents; and
1-12 WHEREAS, The school will host an anniversary event on May 11,
1-13 2001, and the celebration provides a fitting opportunity to
1-14 recognize this Houston institution and the lasting influence it has
1-15 had in the lives of so many young Texans; now, therefore, be it
1-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Thomas Edison Middle School on its
1-18 75th anniversary and extend to its students, faculty, staff, and
1-19 alumni sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable occasion;
1-20 and, be it further
1-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-22 prepared for Thomas Edison Middle School as an expression of high
1-23 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
