R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Dr. Sidney Poynter has been superintendent of
 1-2     Crowley Independent School District (ISD) in Fort Worth for the
 1-3     last 39 years; he holds the record for continuous service as
 1-4     superintendent of one district, and this achievement is truly
 1-5     deserving of special recognition; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A native of Texarkana, Arkansas, this esteemed
 1-7     educator began his teaching career in Crowley ISD in 1959 as a boys
 1-8     and girls basketball coach and teacher of typing, math, Texas
 1-9     history, and current events; just nine months later he was called
1-10     to serve in the United States military, only to be released from
1-11     duty after students, parents, and school officials pressed for him
1-12     to remain a teacher in the district; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Promoted to superintendent in 1962, Dr. Poynter is
1-14     the only person to hold the position, and during his nearly four
1-15     decades of service to the district, he has overseen impressive
1-16     changes; Crowley ISD is among the fastest growing districts in
1-17     Texas, with a student body that has increased from only 237 to more
1-18     than 9,000; moreover, the annual budget for the district when Dr.
1-19     Poynter became superintendent was less than today's annual utility
1-20     bill for one school in the district; and
1-21           WHEREAS, A man of integrity and vision, Dr. Poynter has acted
1-22     with unsurpassed dedication to the cause of education and his
1-23     community, and it is a privilege to commend him on his noteworthy
1-24     tenure; now, therefore, be it
 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-2     Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Sidney Poynter for his
 2-3     record-setting tenure as superintendent of Crowley ISD and extend
 2-4     to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all of his
 2-5     future endeavors; and, be it further
 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-7     prepared for Dr. Poynter as an expression of high regard by the
 2-8     Texas House of Representatives.
