R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Richardson Independent School District (RISD)
1-2 Capitol Scholars program promotes academic excellence and
1-3 challenges students to expand their horizons of knowledge beyond
1-4 the classroom; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Given outstanding support by the Richardson business
1-6 community, this worthy program allows fine young minds the unique
1-7 opportunity to observe the governmental process and meet many of
1-8 those individuals who participate in it; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Having earned this singular distinction through
1-10 superior achievement in a competitive essay contest, this year's
1-11 2001 RISD Capitol Scholars are Brandon Byrne and Shivum Agrwal of
1-12 J. J. Pearce High School, Steve Frazee and Grace Tarng of Berkner
1-13 High School, and Christin Wentz and Andres Correa of Richardson
1-14 High School; the students are accompanied on their trip to Austin
1-15 by Rose Harp, Maria Martin, and Regina Moss, teachers from each of
1-16 the schools represented, and by Melinda Smith, the director of
1-17 social studies for RISD; and
1-18 WHEREAS, These exemplary students will be welcomed to the
1-19 Capitol by State Representative Fred Hill, who, for the seventh
1-20 legislative session, has sponsored the RISD Capitol Scholars
1-21 program; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Fostering an interest in and understanding of the
1-23 governmental process for the leaders of tomorrow is at the heart of
2-1 the RISD Capitol Scholars program, and it is indeed appropriate
2-2 that this valuable project be given special legislative
2-3 recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby welcome the winners of the 2001 RISD Capitol
2-6 Scholars program and congratulate them on their outstanding
2-7 accomplishments; and, be it further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for the 2001 RISD Capitol Scholars as an expression of
2-10 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
