R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
 1-2     The University of Texas at Dallas and the members of its government
 1-3     honors program on the occasion of their visit to the State Capitol
 1-4     on April 18, 2001; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Since it first began admitting freshmen in 1989, The
 1-6     University of Texas at Dallas has consistently ranked among the
 1-7     highest in the nation and is in the top two in Texas in student
 1-8     selectivity ratings, national merit scholars, and SAT scores for
 1-9     incoming freshmen; UT-Dallas has accomplished these impressive
1-10     feats while also becoming the fastest growing institution of higher
1-11     education in the Lone Star State; and
1-12           WHEREAS, This exemplary university offers an innovative and
1-13     progressive curriculum and currently grants more computer science
1-14     degrees than any other institution of higher learning in the state;
1-15     moreover, it has brought national recognition to the state through
1-16     its success in academic competitions, including debate, chess, and
1-17     college bowl; and
1-18           WHEREAS, The school's government program has won wide acclaim
1-19     for its work on Texas politics, and the students from the
1-20     government and politics program are routinely placed in some of the
1-21     finest law schools in the country; and
1-22           WHEREAS, The talented students of the government honors
1-23     program have demonstrated impressive academic drive and commitment
1-24     that is typical of students at The University of Texas at Dallas,
 2-1     and it is indeed appropriate to honor these future leaders of the
 2-2     Lone Star State and the university they attend; now, therefore, be
 2-3     it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby commend The University of Texas at Dallas for
 2-6     its outstanding efforts to educate our state's future leaders and
 2-7     extend an official welcome to the school's president, Franklyn
 2-8     Jenifer, and vice president, Carlos Pena, and to its government
 2-9     faculty and honors students.
