R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Gladys Bishop Harrington of Plano in recognition of her 100th 1-3 birthday; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born on May 29, 1901, in Paris, Texas, 1-5 Mrs. Harrington grew up in a loving family that included three 1-6 siblings, brother Clinton Conner Bishop and sisters Elizabeth Bush 1-7 and Lottie Kate Newsom; and 1-8 WHEREAS, She married Frederick Joseph Harrington on October 1-9 8, 1919, and was a partner with him in the agriculture business for 1-10 many years; the couple enjoyed a warm and fulfilling relationship 1-11 until his passing, and they were blessed with two sons, Joe Hunter 1-12 Harrington and Conner Harrington; as her family has continued to 1-13 grow, Mrs. Harrington has welcomed four cherished grandchildren, 1-14 Freddy Harrington, Cynthia Harrington, Connie Harrington Coolik and 1-15 her husband, Russell, and Mary Lou Harrington Ross and her husband, 1-16 Gregory; and two great-grandchildren, Sage Harrington and Emily 1-17 Eikenburg; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This lovely lady enjoys the affection and support of 1-19 an extended family and a host of friends in the Collin County 1-20 community, and her life is also enriched by the companionship of 1-21 her beloved dog, Boomer; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A strong proponent of reading, which has been a 1-23 lifelong pleasure, Mrs. Harrington was instrumental in the opening 1-24 of the first library in Plano in 1955, and for a time, her notable 2-1 efforts were the reason the library was able to continue operating; 2-2 in 1969, the Gladys Harrington Library opened in Plano as a tribute 2-3 to this remarkable woman; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Harrington has contributed countless hours to 2-5 the support of Republican candidates and continues to serve as a 2-6 Republican Party precinct chairman; her activism within the local 2-7 party earned her the nickname of the "grand old dame" of Collin 2-8 County's Grand Old Party; and 2-9 WHEREAS, She has generously allotted her time and resources 2-10 to various groups, including the First Christian Church of Plano, 2-11 which she has served as a deaconess, president of the Christian 2-12 Women's Fellowship, and chairman of numerous committees, and she 2-13 also continues her longtime involvement with the Plano Chamber 2-14 Orchestra, sponsoring its Youth Competition Concert each spring; 2-15 and 2-16 WHEREAS, The birthday of Mrs. Harrington provides a fitting 2-17 opportunity for her friends and relatives to share with her a small 2-18 bit of the joy she has imparted to so many throughout the years; 2-19 now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby congratulate Gladys Bishop Harrington on the 2-22 momentous occasion of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere 2-23 best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 prepared for Mrs. Harrington as an expression of high regard by the 2-26 Texas House of Representatives.
