R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Alice Rose Kennedy of San Antonio has been named the
 1-2     recipient of a 2001 Outstanding Achievement Award in the area of
 1-3     public service by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The caucus seeks to honor deserving individuals for
 1-5     the positive impact they make in their communities, and
 1-6     Mrs. Kennedy has worked diligently in behalf of the residents of
 1-7     San Antonio, both as an educator and as a volunteer; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Retired since 1994 from the San Antonio Independent
 1-9     School District, she is president of the San Antonio Alumnae
1-10     Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service
1-11     sorority that enhances the lives of local citizens through a host
1-12     of important initiatives designed to promote economic and
1-13     educational development, international awareness and involvement,
1-14     physical and mental health, and political awareness and
1-15     participation; and
1-16           WHEREAS, To that end, Mrs. Kennedy plays a leading role in
1-17     the sorority's involvement with the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
1-18     at Martin Luther King Middle School, clinical depression awareness
1-19     campaigns, diversity forums, financial planning workshops, voter
1-20     registration drives, and other significant endeavors too numerous
1-21     to mention; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mrs. Kennedy's diverse interests have led her to
1-23     share her expertise as a registered parliamentarian, to serve as a
1-24     commissioner of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, Inc., and
 2-1     together with her husband, Calvin, to chair the successful Carver
 2-2     Community Cultural Center's Cavalcade of Stars, which raised needed
 2-3     funds for the center; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is affiliated with myriad
 2-5     groups, including the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the
 2-6     NAACP, The Links, Inc., the San Antonio Conservation Society, and
 2-7     the American Cancer Society; for her dedication, she received the
 2-8     1997 Community Service Award from San Antonio Area Mission No. 2,
 2-9     was named 1994 Mother of the Year by the Altrusa Social Club, and
2-10     was selected as Delta Woman of the Year in 1990 by the San Antonio
2-11     Alumnae Chapter; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Through her many good works, Alice Rose Kennedy has
2-13     benefited countless residents of San Antonio, and it is a great
2-14     pleasure to recognize her at this time; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-16     Legislature hereby commend Alice Rose Kennedy on her receipt of an
2-17     Outstanding Achievement Award by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus
2-18     and extend  to her best wishes for continued success and happiness;
2-19     and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21     prepared for Mrs. Kennedy as an expression of high regard by the
2-22     Texas House of Representatives.
