                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Erica Yates of San Antonio has been named a 2001
 1-2     recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Female Youth
 1-3     Category from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The daughter of Dillard and Monica Yates, this
 1-5     dynamic young Texan is currently a junior at Highlands High School,
 1-6     where she is an outstanding student-athlete who ranks in the top
 1-7     five percent of her class; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Her myriad scholastic accomplishments include being
 1-9     on the High Honor Roll from 1998 to the present, being a member of
1-10     the National Honor Society, a U.S.--All American Scholar in
1-11     history, English, and math, and being the San Antonio Student of
1-12     the Year in poetry; moreover, she has received the Pop Warner
1-13     Little Scholar Award and the Certificate of Excellence in science,
1-14     history, English, and math three times and has been active with the
1-15     G.E.T. S.E.T. program and as a UIL competitor in math and English;
1-16     and
1-17           WHEREAS, Athletically gifted as well, Ms. Yates is a
1-18     three-time member of the UIL Academic All-District team for both
1-19     volleyball and track and field and has excelled at district,
1-20     regional, and state track competitions; she has also had success
1-21     with Amateur Athletic Union track and field, being a five-year
1-22     member of the San Antonio Heat track and field team, and a U.S.
1-23     Junior Olympic medalist; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Her commitment to her community is equally
 2-1     impressive, as she donates time as a member of DARE, Peer Assistant
 2-2     Leader, Young Adult Aware, and the Young Christian Athletes Club;
 2-3     furthermore, she is an active parishioner of Tried Stone Baptist
 2-4     Church, where she sings with the youth choir; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Ree-Ree," Erica Yates has
 2-6     proven herself to be a talented young woman of immense potential,
 2-7     and it is a privilege to honor her at this time; now, therefore, be
 2-8     it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate Erica Yates on receiving a 2001
2-11     Outstanding Achievement Award from the Texas Legislative Black
2-12     Caucus; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for Ms. Yates as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-15     House of Representatives.
