R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is pleased to honor 1-2 Vernon O. "Spot" Barnett of San Antonio for his receipt of an 1-3 Outstanding Achievement Award in the entertainment area from the 1-4 Texas Legislative Black Caucus; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Educated in San Antonio, Mr. Barnett received a 1-6 music scholarship in 1955 to attend St. Phillip's College, where he 1-7 studied under the tutelage of Dr. Roland Martin; he then set out 1-8 with his saxophone to carve out 50 exceptional years in the 1-9 entertainment industry; and 1-10 WHEREAS, His notable career includes opening for Ike and Tina 1-11 Turner and touring as a saxophonist with Bobby "Blue" Bland; now 1-12 this esteemed musician is active writing about music in the local 1-13 papers, working with young people, and visiting San Antonio schools 1-14 and churches to perform for local residents; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett is a stellar musician, a fine citizen, 1-16 and a great source of pride for the Lone Star State, and it is 1-17 indeed fitting that we honor him at this time; now, therefore, be 1-18 it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-20 Legislature hereby congratulate Vernon O. "Spot" Barnett on his 1-21 receipt of an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Texas 1-22 Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for 1-23 continued success and happiness; and, be it further 1-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-1 prepared for Mr. Barnett as an expression of high regard by the 2-2 Texas House of Representatives.
