R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Sergeant Michael Lex Shepherd of San Antonio has 1-2 been selected by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus to receive a 1-3 2001 Outstanding Texan Award for his significant contributions in 1-4 the area of public safety; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Sergeant Shepherd graduated 1-6 from George W. Brackenridge High School and earned an associate's 1-7 degree in law enforcement at San Antonio College; he went on to 1-8 receive a bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, this esteemed gentleman has 1-11 dutifully served as a valued member of the San Antonio Police 1-12 Department; in his current post, Sergeant Shepherd is a supervisor 1-13 for the San Antonio Fear Free Environment, a specialized community 1-14 policing unit at the department's eastside police substation; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Since joining the police force in 1979, he has also 1-16 served as a patrol officer and supervisor, evidence technician, and 1-17 homicide detective; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Known as "Sergeant Everywhere," he is respected and 1-19 admired in San Antonio's diverse eastside district for being fair 1-20 and accessible; whether it be on the police force or in the 1-21 community, Sergeant Shepherd has worked hard to make a lasting 1-22 difference in the Lone Star State; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Sergeant Shepherd has strived to uphold the 1-24 time-honored oath of protecting and serving his fellow citizens; 2-1 with his exemplary service and devotion to law enforcement, he has 2-2 proven himself to be a model officer who is an asset to the San 2-3 Antonio community and most deserving of this prestigious accolade; 2-4 now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby commend Michael Lex Shepherd on his receipt of a 2-7 2001 Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black 2-8 Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success 2-9 and good fortune; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-11 prepared for Sergeant Shepherd as an expression of high regard by 2-12 the Texas House of Representatives.
