R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The robotics team from Riverside High School in El
 1-2     Paso claimed top honors in the FIRST Robotics Lone Star Regional
 1-3     competition held in Houston and advanced to the national
 1-4     championships held at Disney World's Epcot Center in Orlando,
 1-5     Florida; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Riverside robotics team members Demetrio Rodriguez,
 1-7     Danny Renteria, Adriana Ruiz, Matthew Rechkemmer, Andy Oliver, and
 1-8     James Martinez earned first place with their "Jack the Gripper"
 1-9     robot, which had to be designed, created, and tested in only six
1-10     weeks; this superb robot proved capable of grasping and picking up
1-11     heavy 12-inch and 30-inch balls and placing them into a 7-foot-tall
1-12     goal; and
1-13           WHEREAS, "Jack," who was operated by remote control by the
1-14     Riverside squad, truly showcased his impressive capabilities at the
1-15     FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
1-16     competition and at the national championship went on to finish 38th
1-17     out of 81 division finalists; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Under the guidance of robotics coach Chuck Telehaney
1-19     and Boeing engineers Manny Moreno and Oscar Cordova, these talented
1-20     students have demonstrated an outstanding aptitude for engineering
1-21     and capacity for cooperation, and they are most deserving of
1-22     special legislative praise; now, therefore, be it
1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate all the members of the Riverside
 2-1     High School robotics team on their victory at the FIRST Robotics
 2-2     Lone Star Regional and extend to them sincere best wishes for
 2-3     continued success in all their future endeavors; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for the Riverside High School robotics team as an
 2-6     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
