                                 R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Calallen High School baseball team of Corpus
 1-2 Christi capped off a remarkable season with a hard-fought 8-6
1-3 victory against Port Neches-Grove High School to capture the 2000
1-4 UIL Class 4A state baseball championship, and this outstanding team
 1-5     achievement is  indeed worthy of special legislative recognition;
 1-6 and
1-7 WHEREAS, Head coach Steve Chapman and the rest of his
1-8 coaching staff adroitly guided the Wildcats to a 38-3 record and
1-9 had them ably prepared for their title showdown against resilient
1-10 Port Neches-Grove; and
1-11 WHEREAS, In the championship game, the Wildcats rallied from
1-12 a 6-4 deficit by scoring two runs in the sixth inning to send the
1-13 game into extra innings; Calallen took a lead it would not
1-14 relinquish when Matt Bode scored in the ninth inning and Brandon
1-15 Wittner added an insurance run to help secure the school's
1-16 first-ever state baseball title; and
1-17 WHEREAS, After finishing as the state's runner-up in 1998 and
1-18 1999, Calallen became the first South Texas team to place first at
1-19 the state tournament since Orange Grove High School accomplished
1-20 the feat in 1994; the Wildcats' unique blend of great pitching,
1-21 opportunistic offense, and impenetrable defense proved too much for

1-23 WHEREAS, The superb season would not have been possible
1-24 without the contributions of all the talented team members and

2-3 culmination to an exceptional season; now, therefore, be it
