R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The tragic loss of San Antonio police officer Hector 1-2 Garza, who was killed in the line of duty on March 29, 2001, has 1-3 left an immeasurable void in the lives of the family and many 1-4 friends of this beloved public servant; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Officer Garza was born in San 1-6 Antonio and graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1970; 1-7 after a tour in the United States Army, this hardworking young man 1-8 was employed as a truck driver for a short while before pursuing a 1-9 career in law enforcement; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Officer Garza graduated from the police academy in 1-11 1975 and worked as a patrolman with the San Antonio Police 1-12 Department for the duration of his career; during a tenure that 1-13 spanned more than two decades, he demonstrated the compassion and 1-14 quick thinking essential for success in the field of law 1-15 enforcement, earning the respect and admiration of his peers for 1-16 his dedication and tremendous experience; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A strong believer in the value of higher education, 1-18 this esteemed officer earned a bachelor's degree in education from 1-19 Wayland Baptist University in 1998 while working full-time for the 1-20 force; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Officer Hector Garza was a man of honesty, 1-22 integrity, and courage, and although he will be deeply missed by 1-23 the many people with whom he shared his life, his spirit will 1-24 continue to live on in the hearts and minds not only of his family 2-1 and friends, but also of all who were helped by him over the course 2-2 of his exceptional life and career; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of San Antonio police 2-5 officer Hector Garza and extend sincere sympathy to the members of 2-6 his family: to his wife, Gilda Garza; to his children, Hector 2-7 Garza, Jr., Jason Garza, Matthew Salomon, Joshua Michael Garza, and 2-8 Ryann Denise Garza; to his parents, Juanita and Reynaldo Garza; to 2-9 his brother, Rey Garza; to his sister, Virginia Craig; to his 2-10 cousin, John Robert Brown; and to the other relatives, fellow 2-11 officers, and many friends of this courageous individual; and, be 2-12 it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of 2-15 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Officer 2-16 Hector Garza.
