R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to 1-2 commend those teachers from across the Lone Star State who compose 1-3 the inaugural graduating class of the Aerospace Academy for 1-4 Engineering and Teacher Education; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Aerospace Academy was formed to address current 1-6 shortages of engineering and computer science practitioners and 1-7 mathematics and science teachers, and it is the result of a 1-8 collaborative effort among Baylor College of Medicine, Clear Creek 1-9 ISD, the Clear Lake area business community, the Clear Lake Area 1-10 Economic Development Foundation, College of the Mainland, 1-11 NASA-Johnson Space Center, Pasadena ISD, Prairie View A&M 1-12 University, San Jacinto College District, Space Center Houston, and 1-13 the University of Houston-Clear Lake; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Representing nine different school districts and 1-15 community colleges in Texas, the 22 educators who completed the 1-16 two-semester program were shown how to make real-world connections 1-17 between the mathematics concepts they teach and the ways in which 1-18 those concepts are used in the space program; in turn, they will 1-19 carry this knowledge into their classrooms in an effort to inspire 1-20 their students to pursue mathematics-intensive careers such as 1-21 engineering; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The celebration of Space Day 2001 on April 24, 2001, 1-23 provides a fitting opportunity to honor these fine educators and 1-24 commend their superintendents, principals, and presidents for 2-1 supporting their involvement in the academy; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate the first graduates of the 2-4 Aerospace Academy for Engineering and Teacher Education and extend 2-5 to them sincere best wishes for continued good fortune; and, be it 2-6 further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for these noteworthy educators as an expression of high 2-9 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
