                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, April 24, 2001, marks Space Day 2001, and this
 1-2     noteworthy occasion provides an ideal opportunity to recognize and
 1-3     celebrate America's myriad accomplishments in the exploration of
 1-4     space; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Through the efforts of many devoted individuals and
 1-6     organizations--including NASA, the Johnson Space Center, and
 1-7     aerospace companies throughout Texas and the nation--the human
 1-8     spaceflight program has achieved many lofty goals and today
 1-9     continues to stir the spirit of discovery that has served as a
1-10     catalyst for achievement and progress throughout the course of our
1-11     nation's history; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The benefits derived from the application of space
1-13     technology and research are indeed substantial, and they have
1-14     undoubtedly helped to improve the quality of life on Earth in
1-15     numerous ways; in addition, our national space program has provided
1-16     important opportunities for international collaboration and
1-17     cooperation; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Today, America can take justifiable pride in its
1-19     successful space exploration endeavors, including the space shuttle
1-20     and international space station programs; lead responsibilities for
1-21     both those programs fall on the Johnson Space Center, which would
1-22     also oversee any future human missions to the moon or Mars; and
1-23           WHEREAS, The people across Texas and throughout the United
1-24     States benefit greatly from our nation's human spaceflight program,
 2-1     and it is a privilege to recognize all those who have contributed
 2-2     to this critical endeavor; now, therefore, be it
 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-4     Legislature hereby recognize April 24, 2001, as Space Day 2001 and
 2-5     extend to all those involved with America's exploration of space
 2-6     sincere appreciation for their significant efforts.
