R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Time has not dimmed the importance of the Vietnam
1-2 War to the men and women who participated in that conflict, or
1-3 diminished our nation's debt to them for their sacrifices, and the
1-4 creation of a National Vietnam War Museum in Mineral Wells, Texas,
1-5 will be a fitting tribute to their honored service; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Initiated by the Fort Wolters chapter of the Vietnam
1-7 Helicopter Pilots Association, the National Vietnam War Museum in
1-8 Mineral Wells will present the historical facts and consequences of
1-9 the war in an objective manner, examining its effects not only on
1-10 those who endured actual combat, but also on the people of the
1-11 United States and Vietnam; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Using innovative exhibition techniques, the museum
1-13 will portray the Vietnam War through eight interwoven themes: the
1-14 Cold War, the nation and culture of Vietnam, Vietnam War
1-15 chronology, an evolution in ground, air, and sea warfare, the home
1-16 front, war's end and aftermath, and Fort Wolters; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Among the museum's most successful projects is the
1-18 documentary "Flight Line: The Army Helicopter Pilots of Vietnam,"
1-19 which was introduced and narrated by Harrison Ford and aired on PBS
1-20 in November 2000; and
1-21 WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was a defining event for an entire
1-22 generation of Americans, and the members of this body wish to voice
1-23 their support of the many dedicated individuals working to
1-24 establish the National Vietnam War Museum in Mineral Wells; the
2-1 museum will be of great benefit to the state and nation in
2-2 promoting understanding of the Vietnam War, and it is indeed worthy
2-3 of special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be
2-4 it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby honor the men and women who served their country
2-7 as members of the United States armed forces during the Vietnam War
2-8 and extend to all those associated with the National Vietnam War
2-9 Museum in Mineral Wells sincere best wishes for success with this
2-10 significant project; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for the National Vietnam War Museum as an expression of
2-13 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
