R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The citizens of Alpine lost a valued friend and West
 1-2     Texas pioneer with the death of JD Holman on February 16, 2001, at
 1-3     the age of 80; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Born on June 16, 1920, in Midland, he moved to
 1-5     Brewster County with his family as a young child and remained a
 1-6     lifelong resident of Alpine, the county seat; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Mr. Holman and the former Joy Casner were married in
 1-8     April 1942 in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and enjoyed a loving and
 1-9     supportive relationship until her passing; they were blessed with
1-10     four children, and through the years, Mr. Holman took great
1-11     pleasure in welcoming six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren
1-12     into the family fold; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A highly respected businessman and rancher,
1-14     Mr. Holman for 30 years partnered with his father-in-law in
1-15     Casner's Motors, a thriving automobile dealership with locations in
1-16     numerous towns along the Texas-Mexico border; he also was involved
1-17     in a candelaria wax enterprise; and
1-18           WHEREAS, He was a member of the National Rifle Association,
1-19     and in his leisure hours, he liked to spend time on the golf course
1-20     in the company of his family and friends; and
1-21           WHEREAS, A founder of the Alpine Country Club, Mr. Holman was
1-22     a generous benefactor to orphanages and joined his father-in-law in
1-23     supporting the successful effort to have the spectacular
1-24     800,000-acre Big Bend state park achieve national park status; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Residents of the Alpine area will long miss this
 2-2     fine man, and he will surely be remembered with great affection and
 2-3     admiration for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of JD Holman and extend
 2-6     sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his daughters,
 2-7     Sissy Schoenfeldt, Emmy Holman, and Pat Bell; to his grandchildren
 2-8     and great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many
 2-9     friends; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-13     JD Holman.
