No. 818 77R10012 MDM-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Holly Hollingsworth Ziler of Dell 1-2 City on October 27, 2000, has deeply saddened the family and many 1-3 friends of this remarkable woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A 1941 graduate of Purdue University, Mrs. Ziler 1-5 earned a degree in aeronautical engineering before joining the 1-6 Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) as one of the charter members 1-7 of this select group of fliers; and 1-8 WHEREAS, After completing her military service, Mrs. Ziler 1-9 returned to Connecticut and a job with United Aircraft before 1-10 making Texas her permanent home when she settled near present-day 1-11 Dell City in Hudspeth County in 1944; she devoted herself to area 1-12 schoolchildren for 18 years as a teacher in Sierra Blanca and the 1-13 Dell City school system and also owned and operated Holly Flying 1-14 School; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ziler was a frequent volunteer with many worthy 1-16 community organizations, generously sharing her time, energy, and 1-17 resources; in recognition of her deep commitment to her fellow 1-18 Texans, she was named Citizen of the Year for 2000 by the Dell 1-19 Valley Chamber of Commerce; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Holly Ziler was a woman ahead of her time who helped 1-21 make history as a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots; 1-22 returning home, she continued to serve as an exemplary role model 1-23 to the many people who knew and admired her; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Holly Hollingsworth 2-2 Ziler and extend sincere sympathy to her husband, Doyle Ziler, and 2-3 to the other relatives and many friends of this extraordinary 2-4 woman; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of 2-7 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Holly 2-8 Hollingsworth Ziler.
