R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, John Barrera of Mission works tirelessly to assist 1-2 people who are striving to become U.S. citizens, and the Texas 1-3 House of Representatives is proud to honor him for his significant 1-4 efforts in that regard; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Teaching American history and English free-of-charge 1-6 to prospective citizens, Mr. Barrera generously shares his time and 1-7 expertise to prepare his students for the oral and written exams 1-8 requisite for attaining citizenship; in five years, Mr. Barrera has 1-9 helped 1,050 people become citizens; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In addition to tutoring students so they may pass 1-11 their exams, this notable Texan often provides transportation to 1-12 appointments, access to lawyers, and invaluable moral support and 1-13 guidance to students as they navigate the bureaucracy inherent with 1-14 the naturalization process; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Through his remarkable public service, Mr. Barrera 1-16 exemplifies selflessness and sets a fine example of good 1-17 citizenship for his students and fellow Texans; now, therefore, be 1-18 it 1-19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 1-20 Legislature hereby honor John Barrera for his remarkable public 1-21 service as a citizenship tutor and extend to him sincere best 1-22 wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further 1-23 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 1-24 prepared for Mr. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the 2-1 Texas House of Representatives.
