                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The family and friends of Ramon L. de la Garza of
 1-2     Mission were deeply saddened by his death on August 1, 1998, at the
 1-3     age of 85, and the passage of time has not diminished the impact of
 1-4     this notable gentleman on their lives; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Born January 30, 1913, in Mission, he served his
 1-6     nation with distinction during World War II and returned to his
 1-7     hometown in 1946, when he became the first commander of the
 1-8     Catholic War Veterans; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This outstanding individual was a true community
1-10     leader and worked for the betterment of his fellow citizens as a
1-11     Mission city commissioner and through his participation in numerous
1-12     worthy civic organizations; and
1-13           WHEREAS, A man of deep and abiding religious conviction,
1-14     Mr. de la Garza shared his faith as an active member of Our Lady of
1-15     Guadalupe Catholic Church; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Ramon de la Garza is deeply missed by all who knew
1-17     him, but his remarkable spirit lives on in the hearts of those
1-18     whose lives he touched during his time on this earth; now,
1-19     therefore, be it
1-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-21     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ramon L. de la Garza
1-22     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
1-23     wife, Ester Casas de la Garza; to his daughters and sons-in-law,
1-24     Rafaela and Francisco Diez, Rosario and Ernesto Pena, Ana Maria and
 2-1     Isidro Garcia, Carmen and Richard Martinez, Marta and Judge Fred
 2-2     Garza, and Judith de la Garza; and to the many other relatives and
 2-3     friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further
 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-5     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
 2-6     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 2-7     Ramon L. de la Garza.
