R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, This year marks the end of a noteworthy tenure for 1-2 Principal Don Brown with L. D. Bell High School and the 1-3 Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District (H-E-B ISD), and 1-4 his retirement is indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Brown grew up in Denton and earned his 1-7 bachelor's and master's degrees from North Texas State University; 1-8 he began his career with the H-E-B ISD as a coach and teacher at L. 1-9 D. Bell High School in 1962 and has been employed by the district 1-10 for nearly four decades; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Over the years, this exceptional educator 1-12 demonstrated tremendous natural leadership abilities, and, after 1-13 only five years as a teacher, he was selected as the assistant 1-14 principal of Hurst Junior High; one year later he was promoted to 1-15 principal, and served in that position for four years before 1-16 spending three years as principal of Harwood Junior High School and 1-17 the last 26 years as principal of L. D. Bell High School; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Under his guidance, the district has earned state 1-19 and national recognition for academic excellence, including the 1-20 National Blue Ribbon School award, ranking as one of Redbook 1-21 Magazine's "America's Best Schools" in 1996, a Breaking Ranks 1-22 nomination from the United States Department of Education, and 1-23 designation as an International Baccalaureate School for 2001; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Mr. Brown is the founder and president of Education 2-1 Design Services, a business that specializes in technology-based 2-2 staff developments, instruction design, staff training, school 2-3 networking, and high school services; the success of this business 2-4 has provided an opportunity for Mr. Brown to further contribute to 2-5 and improve the state of education long after his departure from 2-6 H-E-B ISD; and 2-7 WHEREAS, An active member and deacon at the First Baptist 2-8 Church in Euless, he has given generously of his time and talents 2-9 to a host of worthwhile community initiatives and it is a privilege 2-10 to join his family, friends, and colleagues in honoring his 2-11 distinguished tenure; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby commend Don Brown for his exceptional service to 2-14 the Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD and L. D. Bell High School and extend 2-15 to him sincere best wishes for good fortune and happiness in all of 2-16 his future endeavors; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Mr. Brown as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-19 House of Representatives.
