R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, May 4, 2001, will mark the grand opening of Maxie's
 1-2     Barber and Beauty Mall in Houston, and this auspicious occasion
 1-3     indeed merits special recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, A healthy economic climate is fostered by strong,
 1-5     independent businesses, and this addition to the city's landscape,
 1-6     owned by Adell Maxie, a barber shop owner for the last 35 years, is
 1-7     a notable indication of the state's thriving entrepreneurship; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The 13,000-square-foot mall was made possible in
 1-9     part through support from Unity Bank and Shell Oil Company and will
1-10     provide space for a group of beauty professionals to build their
1-11     own businesses; it will include shops for manicures, pedicures,
1-12     braids and weaving, hair styling, facials, and massages; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Mr. Maxie, Unity Bank, and Shell Oil Company have
1-14     made a noteworthy commitment to the economic well-being of the
1-15     Houston area, and their efforts to foster economic opportunities
1-16     are truly commendable; now, therefore, be it
1-17           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-18     Legislature hereby congratulate Adell Maxie, Unity Bank, and Shell
1-19     Oil Company on the opening of Maxie's Barber and Beauty Mall and
1-20     extend to all those associated with the endeavor sincere best
1-21     wishes for good fortune and happiness in the years to come; and, be
1-22     it further  RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
1-23     prepared for Mr. Maxie as an expression of high regard by the Texas
1-24     House of Representatives.
