R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, In May 2001, the American Council of Young Political
1-2 Leaders (ACYPL) is serving as a host for six Greek and six Turkish
1-3 delegates in the United States; and
1-4 WHEREAS, The ACYPL has worked hard to foster an increased
1-5 understanding between countries that historically have had
1-6 differing points of view by creating an open atmosphere to generate
1-7 constructive dialogue; and
1-8 WHEREAS, While in the United States, the Greek and Turkish
1-9 delegates will visit Washington, D.C., will attend a seminar on
1-10 national government, and will also visit two states to participate
1-11 in discussions about local government; the programs will address a
1-12 wide range of topics, including governance, diversity, civic
1-13 participation, and challenges inherent in serving a nation's
1-14 citizenry; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Other significant issues selected specifically by
1-16 the Greek and Turkish delegates will be covered to illuminate areas
1-17 of potential cooperation; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The goal of the ACYPL is to bolster relations
1-19 between and among the next generation of political leadership in
1-20 countries with divergent opinions and the United States; with its
1-21 leadership and commitment to spreading international goodwill, the
1-22 organization is making valuable efforts in uniting people, and it
1-23 is indeed most fitting to honor it at this time; now, therefore, be
1-24 it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby honor the American Council of Young Political
2-3 Leaders for its immeasurable contributions in bringing people
2-4 together and extend to its members sincere best wishes for success
2-5 and good fortune in their future endeavors; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the members of the ACYPL as an expression of high
2-8 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
