R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately convey the deep sorrow felt
1-2 by the family and friends of Richard Chavez, III in the wake of his
1-3 untimely death on February 14, 2001, at the age of 12; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Richard was born in Austin on June 21, 1988, and in
1-5 his short life, he touched many people with his humor, charm,
1-6 intelligence, and bright smile; Richard benefited tremendously from
1-7 the love and support of his family and ever-widening circle of
1-8 friends, and in return he brought joy and affection into their
1-9 lives; and
1-10 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the Capital City, where he
1-11 was a seventh grader at O. Henry Middle School, this remarkable
1-12 young man was a talented writer who greatly enjoyed video games and
1-13 looked forward to playing baseball, as well as the drums and
1-14 guitar, in high school; whether envisioning a career as an
1-15 astronaut or a high-tech lifestyle in Japan, Richard was an
1-16 optimist, and those who were close to him could not help but be
1-17 affected by his outgoing and enthusiastic nature; and
1-18 WHEREAS, Although it is especially painful to say good-bye to
1-19 one so young and full of promise, it is fitting to remember that
1-20 while Richard's time here was brief, his life had a profound impact
1-21 on those around him, and his memory will long endure in the hearts
1-22 and minds of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Chavez, III
2-1 and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his
2-2 mother, Norma Chavez; to his sister, Miranda Chavez; to his
2-3 grandparents, Erineo and Evangelina Gallardo; to his aunts, Gloria
2-4 Cantu, Hortencia Chapa, and Linda Doyle; to his uncles, Joel
2-5 Gallardo and Ricardo Gallardo; and to his other relatives and many
2-6 friends; and, be it further
2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-8 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
2-9 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-10 Richard Chavez, III.
