R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On October 13, 1999, the residents of Kerrville lost
1-2 a well-known businessman and treasured friend with the passing of
1-3 Carl Donald Meek, Sr.; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Mission, Texas, on March 10, 1921, Mr. Meek
1-5 was a graduate of McAllen High School and Houston Business College;
1-6 he enlisted in the United States Navy, and after graduating from
1-7 the Naval Flying School in 1942, he served as a combat pilot in
1-8 World War II until his honorable discharge in September 1945; and
1-9 WHEREAS, A man of many talents, Mr. Meek enjoyed a diverse
1-10 career, beginning with the founding of Kerrville Flying Service in
1-11 1945, a flight school that was among the first in the state to be
1-12 approved for G-I flight training; a natural salesman, he worked for
1-13 Peterson Motor Company before purchasing his own dealership, Meek
1-14 Motors, and later establishing Carl Meek Real Estate; he loved the
1-15 challenge and satisfaction of matching good ranch land with fine
1-16 people; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The owner of numerous ranches throughout the Hill
1-18 Country, Mr. Meek enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on
1-19 his land; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and known throughout
1-20 the community as a leader and a trusted friend and neighbor, whose
1-21 kind and generous spirit will not soon be forgotten; now,
1-22 therefore, be it
1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Carl Donald Meek,
2-1 Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to
2-2 his wife, Rosemary Hunt Meek; to his children, Janet Louise Meek,
2-3 Carl Donald Meek, Jr., and Mary Martha Meek; to his grandchildren,
2-4 Robert Henneke, Keith Henneke, Carl Henneke, Will Meek, Daniel
2-5 Meek, and Suzanne Meek; to his brother, Paul Meek; to his sisters,
2-6 Frances Meek Romer and Mary Meek Jackson; and to his many other
2-7 relatives and countless friends; and, be it further
2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-9 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
2-10 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carl
2-11 Donald Meek, Sr.
