R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, September 6, 2001, is the 15th anniversary of the
 1-2     Austin Babtist Women, and this occasion presents an opportune time
 1-3     to take note of the outstanding contributions its members have made
 1-4     in behalf of their fellow citizens; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, The all-volunteer troupe of five Austinites performs
 1-6     in theaters, night spots, comedy clubs, and various charity event
 1-7     venues; the current roster is composed of Garry Holley, Rob
 1-8     Faubion, Ken Johnson, Bob Hemby, and David Pierson, who have been
 1-9     appearing together for the past five years; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Since the mid-1980s, the dedicated performers in
1-11     this group have helped raise more than $4.5 million for charities
1-12     that focus on AIDS, HIV, and breast cancer; funds are generated
1-13     from tips given to the group members, each of whom pays for his own
1-14     travel and performance expenses so that all donated money goes to
1-15     charitable endeavors; and
1-16           WHEREAS, The Austin Babtist Women debuted on Broadway on
1-17     March 31, 2001, at the Marriott Marquis Theater, and they have
1-18     recently headlined events in Las Vegas, Portland, San Diego, San
1-19     Francisco, Albuquerque, Providence, and Reno; Austin is the site of
1-20     four signature events, including Valentine's  Day, Easter,
1-21     Christmas, and anniversary shows, and the quintet regularly
1-22     entertains the residents of San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Waco, and
1-23     Fort Worth; and
1-24           WHEREAS, They have received many accolades for their highly
 2-1     creative fund-raising efforts, twice receiving Austin's Col. Robert
 2-2     Collins Community Spirit Award and being named Entertainers of the
 2-3     Year in Houston and in Dallas; they have also twice served as grand
 2-4     marshals of the St. Patrick's Day Parade in the Capitol City; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Since organizing 15 years ago, the Austin Babtist
 2-6     Women have generously responded to the health needs of countless
 2-7     Texans, and in doing so they have been of great benefit in the
 2-8     lives of numerous individuals; now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby commend the Austin Babtist Women for their deep
2-11     commitment to the people of the Lone Star State and extend to them
2-12     best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-14     prepared for the Austin Babtist Women as an expression of high
2-15     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
