R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Carl Tillery retired from the United Auto Workers 1-2 (UAW) in April 2000, bringing to a close a remarkable 44-year 1-3 tenure with that respected organization; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born January 10, 1935, Mr. Tillery joined UAW Local 1-5 816 at a General Motors plant in 1956 and displayed outstanding 1-6 leadership in several elected union offices, including president; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, In recognition of his exceptional skills as an 1-9 organizer, he was appointed in 1961 to the staff of the 1-10 International Union by UAW president Walter Reuther; he later 1-11 became a servicing representative and in 1990 he applied his 1-12 considerable talents to the position of Region 5 CAP 1-13 representative; and 1-14 WHEREAS, His many notable accomplishments are a source of 1-15 great pride to his sons, Dale, Steve, and Carl, and to his nine 1-16 grandchildren; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Of the many leisure activities he is now free to 1-18 pursue, dancing is one of Mr. Tillery's favorite pastimes, and he 1-19 is particularly fond of country-western dancing and West Coast 1-20 Swing; and 1-21 WHEREAS, For 44 years, Mr. Tillery made a positive difference 1-22 in the lives of countless individuals through his work with the 1-23 UAW, and it is indeed appropriate that he be commended for his many 1-24 significant contributions at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby honor Carl Tillery for his outstanding career 2-3 with the United Auto Workers and extend to him sincere best wishes 2-4 for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Mr. Tillery as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
