R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The J. J. Pearce High School Concert Band in
 1-2     Richardson has received a 2000 Sudler Flag of Honor presented by
 1-3     the John Phillip Sousa Foundation; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, This international award is given to high school
 1-5     band programs that have demonstrated particularly high standards of
 1-6     excellence in concert activities over a period of several years;
 1-7     the award is named for and sponsored by longtime supporters and
 1-8     patrons of the arts, Louis Sudler, Sr., and his wife, Virginia
 1-9     Brown Sudler; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The concert band program at J. J. Pearce entered
1-11     into select company when it became one of two high schools to be
1-12     accorded this prestigious distinction in 2000; moreover, only 43
1-13     bands in the United States and Canada have earned the Sudler Flag
1-14     of Honor Award since it was created 19 years ago; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Under the direction of Conductor Peter Warshaw, the
1-16     talented concert band members at J. J. Pearce are using their
1-17     impressive musical  skills to enrich the lives of many people; with
1-18     their hard work and dedication, they have proven themselves most
1-19     deserving of this significant honor, and it is truly a privilege to
1-20     pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore, be it
1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
1-22     Legislature hereby commend Peter Warshaw and the members of the
1-23     J. J. Pearce High School Concert Band on the receipt of a 2000
1-24     Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Phillip Sousa Foundation and
 2-1     extend to them sincere best wishes for good fortune in all their
 2-2     future endeavors; and, be it further
 2-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 2-4     prepared for the J. J. Pearce High School Concert Band as an
 2-5     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
