R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, Longtime administrator and educator Joseph Culver of
 1-2     Austin is deserving of special legislative recognition for his
 1-3     exemplary record of service; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, Beginning his lifelong association with The
 1-5     University of Texas at Austin more than 50 years ago, Mr. Culver
 1-6     sold soft drinks at UT football games when he was 12, worked at the
 1-7     UT Visual Instruction Bureau painting shelves while he was in high
 1-8     school, and worked for the UT Extension Division while he was
 1-9     earning his bachelor of business administration degree; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Following active duty in the United States Army, he
1-11     returned to UT and embarked on his distinguished professional
1-12     career, beginning as assistant director of benefits for the UT
1-13     System and then as the director of personnel for UT-Austin; he
1-14     completed his master of business administration degree in 1958 and
1-15     also served as a volunteer national vice president for the College
1-16     and University Personnel Association; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Promoted to director of development in 1973,
1-18     Mr. Culver played an integral role in forming and directing such
1-19     important initiatives as the university-wide Development Officers
1-20     Coordinating Committee, the Endowed Presidential Scholarship
1-21     Program, and the President's Associates, which is now the
1-22     Littlefield Foundation; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Briefly leaving UT, he went only a few blocks away
1-24     and served admirably as the vice president for development for the
 2-1     Austin Presbyterian Seminary; after three years, he returned to
 2-2     work at his alma mater and helped establish the UT Ex-Student's
 2-3     Association Foundation for Texas Excellence; moreover, he began
 2-4     teaching in the business school and has now passed on his wisdom
 2-5     and experience as a senior lecturer to students for more than 20
 2-6     years; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, His myriad accolades include receiving the Texas
 2-8     Excellence Teaching Award, the Harkins CBA Teaching Award for Large
 2-9     Classes, and the Eyes of Texas Award; in addition, friends and
2-10     former students have established a scholarship in his name; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Presently serving as cochair of the Ex-Student
2-12     Travel Committee, Mr. Culver has belonged to a number of university
2-13     entities, including the UT-Austin Orientation Committee, the
2-14     Parking and Traffic Committee, the Dietetics Advisory Council in
2-15     Human Ecology, and the UT Credit Union Board; he also has served as
2-16     a faculty fellow in the university dorms for 15 years and as an
2-17     administrative officer for 10 summers for the LEAD High School
2-18     Minority Leadership Program for the CBA; and
2-19           WHEREAS, Mr. Culver has worked hard to further education in
2-20     our state; whether it be as an administrator or as a member of the
2-21     faculty, his valuable efforts have made a lasting difference and
2-22     earned him the respect and admiration of countless students and
2-23     colleagues, and it is most appropriate to pay tribute to him at
2-24     this time; now, therefore, be it
2-25           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-26     Legislature hereby commend Joseph Culver for his significant
2-27     contributions to higher education in Texas and extend to him
 3-1     sincere best wishes for success and happiness in all his future
 3-2     endeavors; and, be it further
 3-3           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 3-4     prepared for Mr. Culver as an expression of high regard by the
 3-5     Texas House of Representatives.
