                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 70th birthday of the Honorable Mary Lib Saleh on
 1-2     May 4, 2001, provides an opportune moment to honor the many
 1-3     accomplishments of this esteemed woman; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, In 1993, Mayor Saleh became the first female mayor
 1-5     of Euless after serving two years as a council member and two years
 1-6     as mayor pro tem; during her exceptional tenure, she has helped to
 1-7     lower the crime rate, appointed the first Euless Historical
 1-8     Commission, encouraged the city to support local artists, and
 1-9     established the Euless Library Foundation; and
1-10           WHEREAS, This inspiring city leader has brought a host of
1-11     improvements to Euless, including the building of a new library,
1-12     golf course, and park as well as two revitalized fire stations and
1-13     the police and courts facility that is currently being built; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Mayor Saleh has devoted much of her time and energy
1-15     to many worthwhile endeavors; she has diligently served numerous
1-16     organizations, including  the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Chamber of
1-17     Commerce board, North Central Texas Council of Governments board,
1-18     Texas Municipal League, National League of Cities, and United
1-19     States Conference of Mayors; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Befitting a Texan of such stature, Mayor Saleh has
1-21     earned numerous awards, including the Texas PTA Life Membership
1-22     Award and the Clyde Mooney Award, which is the Hurst-Euless-Bedford
1-23     Chamber of Commerce's highest honor; in 1998 she was named one of
1-24     Tarrant County's Most Influential Women, and in 2000 the Hurst
 2-1     Masonic Lodge No. 1387 accorded her the Community Builders Award;
 2-2     and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Devoted to the citizens of Euless and an inspiration
 2-4     to many Texans, Mayor Saleh has earned the gratitude of countless
 2-5     individuals who have benefited from her outstanding leadership;
 2-6     now, therefore, be it
 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-8     Legislature hereby honor Mayor Mary Lib Saleh on her 70th birthday
 2-9     and extend to her best wishes for continued success and happiness;
2-10     and, be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12     prepared for Mayor Saleh as an expression of high regard by the
2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
