R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, May 24, 2001, will mark the retirement of Brenda
 1-2     King from the Killeen Independent School District, and on this
 1-3     occasion it is most appropriate to pay tribute to her for her many
 1-4     contributions to the Killeen ISD and the field of education; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, This longtime Texan graduated from the University of
 1-6     Mary-Hardin Baylor in December of 1969 and began her career as an
 1-7     educator in 1970 as a home economics teacher at Nolan Middle
 1-8     School; Mrs. King also taught physical education and third grade at
 1-9     Pershing Park Elementary before earning her master of education
1-10     degree from Tarleton State University in 1981; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Since that time, this inspiring instructor has
1-12     joined the administrative staff of Killeen ISD, serving the
1-13     families of her community as assistant principal at Duncan
1-14     Elementary and principal of both West Ward Elementary and Mountain
1-15     View Elementary; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Mrs. King has demonstrated tremendous commitment to
1-17     the children of this state, and over the years she has earned
1-18     significant recognition for her efforts; she was named the Top
1-19     Administrator by the Harker Heights Kiwanis Club in 1992 and the
1-20     Killeen Teachers Administrator of the Year; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Under her esteemed guidance, Mountain View
1-22     Elementary has earned the Governor's Certificate for the Texas
1-23     Successful Schools Award in 1995 and the 1999 Achievement Award for
1-24     the school's "Just for Kids" Program; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Brenda King merits high praise for her dedication to
 2-2     preparing our next generation of Texans for the future, and it is a
 2-3     privilege to honor her as she embarks on a well-deserved
 2-4     retirement; now, therefore, be it
 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-6     Legislature hereby commend Brenda King on her 30 years of service
 2-7     to the Killeen ISD and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 2-8     success and happiness in all her future endeavors; and, be it
 2-9     further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for Mrs. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-12     House of Representatives.
