R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, the largest
 1-2     Hispanic arts organization in Dallas and one of the Southwest's
 1-3     leading ballet folklorico troupes, is celebrating its 26th
 1-4     anniversary season in 2001; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Organized in 1975 to instill cultural pride and
 1-6     awareness in Hispanic youth while educating the general public
 1-7     about the Hispanic culture's contribution to the community, the
 1-8     ballet company was named in honor of the first Hispanic woman
 1-9     elected to a major city council in the United States; and
1-10           WHEREAS, In addition to its outstanding dance performances
1-11     and educational programs and its apprentice program and dance
1-12     academy, ANMBF sponsors the Stand and Deliver Awards that honor
1-13     members of the Hispanic community for their scholastic achievement
1-14     and commitment to education and Hispanic culture; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Honorees at the 14th Annual Stand and Deliver Awards
1-16     ceremony include high school students Melissa Rojas and Danny
1-17     Munos, middle school students Maricela Ochoa and Adrian Padilla,
1-18     kindergarten teacher Blanca Cedillo, and principal Sylvia Lopez; in
1-19     addition, a new award recognizing community leaders who advocate
1-20     for academic excellence, cultural enrichment, and empowerment of
1-21     youth will be presented to Nicholas Gonzalez, the star of
1-22     "Resurrection Boulevard" and special guest at the Stand and Deliver
1-23     Awards ceremony; and
1-24           WHEREAS, ANMBF performances include a unique combination of
 2-1     virtuoso dancing mixed with history, drama, and folklore; its
 2-2     innovative educational programs are inspiring and exciting for all
 2-3     participants, and the organization has made a truly lasting
 2-4     contribution to the arts and history of this state; now, therefore,
 2-5     be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby honor the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico on
 2-8     the occasion of its 26th anniversary and extend sincere best wishes
 2-9     to all who are involved with and support this notable endeavor.
