                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The year 2001 marks the 20th anniversary of the
 1-2     Montrose Clinic in Houston, and this noteworthy occasion indeed
 1-3     merits special legislative recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, The Montrose Clinic was established to provide
 1-5     preventive education and screening, diagnosis, and treatment for
 1-6     sexually transmitted diseases; over the last two decades, it has
 1-7     evolved into a multifaceted research, testing, and treatment
 1-8     facility that serves the medical needs of more than 14,000 patients
 1-9     annually; and
1-10           WHEREAS, In response to the growing HIV and AIDS epidemic,
1-11     the clinic became Houston's first alternative HIV antibody testing
1-12     site in 1985, and four years later founded the Houston Clinical
1-13     Research Network, which has provided potentially lifesaving drugs
1-14     to more than 1,000 area residents through its clinical research
1-15     studies; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Many other valuable programs are offered by the
1-17     Montrose Clinic as well, including primary care services for
1-18     indigent individuals living with HIV, free and confidential disease
1-19     testing and counseling, nutritional consultations, community
1-20     outreach and education projects, and well-woman examinations,
1-21     treatment, and referrals; the clinic also offers clients an
1-22     opportunity to take an active role in managing their health and
1-23     lifestyle by providing weight training, nutritional counseling, and
1-24     peer counseling at the clinic's Body Positive Wellness Center; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The Montrose Clinic has a professionally trained
 2-2     staff and a group of dedicated volunteers committed to preventing
 2-3     the spread of disease, providing early diagnosis, and promoting
 2-4     appropriate intervention and care; the selfless and compassionate
 2-5     spirit of these remarkable Texans is evident, and it is indeed a
 2-6     privilege to honor the many men and women who have helped to
 2-7     support the Montrose Clinic in Houston over the last two decades;
 2-8     now, therefore, be it
 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-10     Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with Houston's
2-11     Montrose Clinic as they celebrate the organization's 20th
2-12     anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for success in
2-13     all of their future endeavors; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15     prepared for the Montrose Clinic as an expression of high regard by
2-16     the Texas House of Representatives.
