R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Throckmorton High School has established a tradition 1-2 of excellence in academics and a wide variety of extracurricular 1-3 activities, and this year's students have continued to excel in 1-4 numerous endeavors; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Located in north central Texas, this proud farming 1-6 community places a high priority on education; the high school has 1-7 achieved recognition as an Exemplary Campus in seven of the last 1-8 eight years, and the school district was accorded the notable 1-9 distinction of Exemplary District for the 1999-2000 academic year; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, This has been another banner year for schools in 1-12 Throckmorton; its elementary campus captured first place at the 1-13 University Interscholastic League (UIL) district academic meet, and 1-14 the high school had 11 students advance to the UIL regional 1-15 academic competition; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A perennial power in athletics, the high school 1-17 girls basketball team completed a stellar season in which it 1-18 reached the 2001 UIL Class A state quarterfinals, while the boys 1-19 basketball team made it to the sectional tournament; moreover, the 1-20 tennis and track and field programs had individuals take top honors 1-21 at their respective district competitions; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Additionally, both the boys and girls golf teams 1-23 qualified for the UIL state golf tournament in Austin this year; 1-24 junior Matt Bellah, junior Jed Gray, junior Caleb Hodges, sophomore 2-1 Mikel Martinson, and senior T. C. Redwine led the Greyhounds to 2-2 first-place finishes in their district and regional competitions; 2-3 golfers for the Lady Greyhounds, who won their district meet and 2-4 placed second at regionals, include senior Bridget Briles, senior 2-5 Meggan McKnight, sophomore Whitney Ray, senior Loren Scarlett, and 2-6 senior Shannon Sullivan; and 2-7 WHEREAS, In the arts, the school's 65-member Golden Greyhound 2-8 Band has won the prestigious sweepstakes competition for four of 2-9 the past five years and has also had many of its members perform 2-10 well at state competitions; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Many other organizations at the high school are 2-12 flourishing, such as the Future Farmers of America (FFA); the FFA 2-13 won a total of seven banners this year and six of its members will 2-14 receive their Lone Star Farmer degrees; and 2-15 WHEREAS, With an enrollment of 70 students, Throckmorton High 2-16 School makes up in spirit and determination what it lacks in sheer 2-17 numbers; the school's outstanding accomplishments for the 2000-2001 2-18 academic year are truly impressive, and all those who have 2-19 participated in its many successes are indeed worthy of special 2-20 legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby congratulate the students, faculty, and staff 2-23 at Throckmorton High School for their myriad achievements and 2-24 extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-25 happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy 2-26 of this resolution be prepared for Throckmorton High School as an 2-27 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
