                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, It is indeed a privilege to honor the members of the
 1-2     Odessa High School Student Council for their myriad accomplishments
 1-3     and civic contributions; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, These admirable young people have shown an
 1-5     impressive commitment not only to their high school, but also to
 1-6     their community, and their efforts have been recognized with a
 1-7     number of well-deserved honors; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The members of the Odessa High School Student
 1-9     Council were given this year's Permian Basin Outstanding Youth in
1-10     Philanthropy Award, which was presented to them for their many
1-11     community service projects at a luncheon held in their honor at the
1-12     Midland Petroleum Club on National Philanthropy Day, November 17,
1-13     2000; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The Odessa High School Student Council's largest
1-15     community service project is an annual six-week campaign to raise
1-16     money for Easter Seals and the Permian Basin Rehabilitation Center
1-17     of Odessa; completed on April 7, 2001, this year's effort raised an
1-18     astounding $35,800, which set a national record as the single
1-19     largest donation ever made to Easter Seals; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Council members recently attended the Texas
1-21     Association of Student Councils State Convention in Austin, an
1-22     annual event that draws more than 5,000 students from 350 high
1-23     schools; at the convention, they received the Outstanding Student
1-24     Council accolade for a remarkable 10th year in a row; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, The members of the Odessa High School Student
 2-2     Council have made an immeasurable difference in the lives of others
 2-3     through their civic initiatives, setting high standards of
 2-4     excellence to which other young people may aspire; now, therefore,
 2-5     be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
 2-7     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the Odessa High School Student
 2-8     Council and commend its members for their significant achievements;
 2-9     and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the Odessa High School Student Council as an
2-12     expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
