R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Betty J. Haynes of Mesquite is retiring from her
1-2 position as social studies teacher and department chairperson at
1-3 West Mesquite High School in 2001, bringing to a close a noted
1-4 30-year career as an educator; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Ms. Haynes was born and raised in Forney and
1-6 graduated from Forney High School before receiving her bachelor's
1-7 and master of education degrees from North Texas State University;
1-8 and
1-9 WHEREAS, Returning to her high school alma mater in 1971, she
1-10 taught U.S. and world history, government, economics, and world
1-11 geography and was student council and UIL speech sponsor at Forney
1-12 High School until 1990, when she joined the staff of West Mesquite
1-13 High School; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Over the past 11 years, Ms. Haynes has earned the
1-15 respect of her colleagues, students, and community for her
1-16 commitment to education; at West Mesquite, she has taught history,
1-17 government, and economics, as well as several honors and advanced
1-18 placement classes, and has overseen an impressive number of
1-19 extracurricular programs while also handling various administrative
1-20 responsibilities; and
1-21 WHEREAS, During more than 30 years as a teacher, Ms. Haynes
1-22 has taught more than 2,000 youths, inspiring our next generation of
1-23 leaders to embrace the challenges of tomorrow; she has given
1-24 generously of her time and talents to the benefit of education in
2-1 this state, and her dedication to her students and the lasting
2-2 influence she has had in the lives of so many are most admirable;
2-3 now, therefore, be it
2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas
2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Betty J. Haynes on a truly
2-6 exceptional career and extend to her sincere best wishes for
2-7 continued happiness and success in all of her future endeavors;
2-8 and, be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-10 prepared for Ms. Haynes as an expression of high regard by the
2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
