                                 R E S O L U T I O N
 1-1           WHEREAS, The 2001 Flour Bluff Junior High School Mathcounts
 1-2     team won the state Mathcounts competition, and this significant
 1-3     accomplishment is deserving of special legislative recognition; and
 1-4           WHEREAS, In taking first place at this prestigious academic
 1-5     competition, these admirable students demonstrated superior
 1-6     mathematical and problem-solving abilities in three rounds of
 1-7     progressively difficult questioning, the sprint, the target, and
 1-8     the team challenges; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Coach Joe Hay had the Flour Bluff students well
1-10     prepared, and his hard work and support helped stoke their
1-11     competitive spirit; the state triumph could not have been possible
1-12     without the valuable contributions of such talented team members as
1-13     Jake Edel, Krystal Crump, Paul Geffert, Chris Michael, and Alicia
1-14     Keese; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Flour Bluff also had several of its members fare
1-16     well in the individual portion of the competition; leading the way
1-17     was Paul Geffert, who finished in third place overall out of 277
1-18     contestants and earned a spot on the Texas Mathcounts team that
1-19     will compete in a national competition on May 11, 2001, in
1-20     Washington, D.C.; other individual standouts included Jake Edel,
1-21     Chris Michael, and Alicia Keese, who garnered 6th, 11th, and 54th
1-22     place respectively; moreover, Paul Geffert and Jake Edel each won
1-23     scholarships to Texas public universities; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Capturing top honors at the state Mathcounts level
 2-1     was a fitting conclusion to a year which saw Flour Bluff also win
 2-2     the Coastal Bend regional competition; through their dedication and
 2-3     pursuit of academic excellence, these young Texas students came
 2-4     together to achieve a collective goal, and it is truly a privilege
 2-5     to pay tribute to them at this time; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives hereby commend
 2-7     the 2001 Flour Bluff Junior High School Mathcounts team for winning
 2-8     the state Mathcounts competition and congratulate all the members
 2-9     and their coach on their outstanding season; and, be it further
2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-11     prepared for the Flour Bluff Junior High School Mathcounts team as
2-12     an expression of high regard from the Texas House of
2-13     Representatives.
